Claude Code stays. The bill changes.
Keep Claude Code exactly as it is. Haybox sits underneath it, routing the work and writing a receipt for every task.
Three steps
Point Claude Code at the Haybox daemon and keep working. The exact configuration line for your version is in the docs.
- Install Haybox
One binary, Windows, macOS or Linux. It starts a local daemon and detects your hardware.
- Point Claude Code at the local endpoint
Point Claude Code at the local endpoint through its standard custom-endpoint configuration. One line.
- Work normally
Nothing about your workflow changes. Watch the Ledger fill: a Waybill per task, and a savings report after thirty days.
Haybox is in private alpha, so step one is the waitlist for now.
What you get with Claude Code
- A shadow report built from your real traffic, not a simulation of someone else’s.
- Local-first routing with acceptance floors under it, so cheap only counts when it holds.
- A Waybill per task: the route, the cost per leg, what verified, and your decision.
- Rules that apply here too — the files you already keep are read natively.

The route, end to end. Illustrative.
Notes for Claude Code specifically
Claude Code honors a custom endpoint through its standard configuration, which makes it a one-line connection. Two things transfer immediately: your existing CLAUDE.md is read natively as a rules source, so nothing you’ve taught your setup is lost; and your real Claude Code traffic is exactly what Shadow Mode needs to build a savings report you’ll believe. Frontier calls still go to Anthropic on your key; Haybox decides when they’re worth it and writes down why.
Questions
Will this break Claude Code updates?
Gateway mode uses the tool’s supported configuration surface; the docs track version notes.
Does my CLAUDE.md still work?
Yes — read natively, with configurable precedence alongside haybox.md.
See what your own traffic says.
Shadow Mode reports on the traffic you already have. Before that exists for you, the calculator will estimate it from your GPU and your monthly spend, and show you every assumption it used to get there.
